Listening through tracks for tonights @pc3overlow Night of Worship. Good to be back calling the shots in the Directors seat.
I went to visit a college student named Sam in the hospital today. Normally, I wouldn’t publicly address the experience, but one of Sam’s friends posted the pic on Reddit.com and it gained attention and an outpouring of support for Sam and his family. Several media outlets have hit me up asking…

On March 10th, 2005 the students of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington gained access to Facebook. So I joined like the other 10,000+ students that day…

On December 4th, 2007 I joined Twitter and posted the following tweet…

Then in October, 2010 I joined the big thing right now, Instagram…

And on top of the big 3 mentioned above, like many, I have signed up for lots of other social media accounts. Some I used for 2 minutes, other I may have used for weeks. But over the last few weeks I have noticed myself constantly checking my phone for the latest tweet or Instagram photo in the worst possible times. I tend to wake up and grab my phone to check what I missed from 2:00am - 8:00am (which is nothing). I look around non stop trying to find the best light leak for a new Instagram photo, then spend 5 minutes flipping through filters. I have been operating in this mode for awhile now, but it was this past weekend when I decided this is not how I want to experience my days right now. (experience being My One Word this year and all, I thought this may be a good move)
So have decided to take a break from the social media realm personally. I am not sure how long, but I know today I did check Twitter or Instagram and it felt a little refreshing. I’ll explain some more of how I came to this conclusion in another upcoming post here on my Tumblr site. Because here is my plan…
I hope to write less random shots of life for the public, but instead write those in my personal Day One App. I do however want to get back to writing longer thought out processes on my Tumblr site. I hope to write things on my experiences in my role as Media Director at Port City Community Church and how we do things. I also want to begin writing on the topic of marriage and communication as Kirsten (my wife) and I continue to learn this whole unity in marriage thing.
So here is goodbye for now with the nonstop status updates & possibly great batter life on my phone.
cheers
mike
I will update Twitter as I post personal Tumblr updates as well as big news or key @portcitychurch updates & stories
