I was able to spend some significant time with two new guys today and discovered something really incredible.

They have a passion for what they are doing right now and it does not involve working at PC3. That may have sounded crazy… but, I know and try to remind myself daily that my job at Port City Community Church is a blessing from God, but I never (rarely) have conversations with non-staff members (of PC3 or other church’s) about how much they love there job. I know I am probably in a bubble on this discovering, but today was a great day.

First, Andy Wellons came in to help me program the lighting side of things for this upcoming weeks service’s. Andy is a sophomore at UNC-W and is currently programming on the ETC Congo Jr at UNCW, lighting designer/programmer at local venues, and loves every minute of it. This is incredible to me to see someone loving what they do while in school and now looking to take that passion and knowledge and be willing to volunteer with us! He has had no motivation to start volunteering to find a job at PC3, he has only be attending for a couple months now. He just absolutely loves the art and is always looking for ways to improve his skills.

Second, Chase Shumate and I had coffee at Starbucks this evening. I had a class at UNCW a couple years ago with Chase, and we hated every minute of that stupid Java & C++ class. But now Chase works for Grainger Industrial, and he is passionate about his job and their business. We spoke about bolts, screws, HVAC, etc for at least 30 minutes straight tonight. He told me about how the company got its start, what accounts they are acquiring, where their vision is going, etc. He was ready to set me up an account right there on the spot. And the reason was not to make commission or lots of money (I’m not sure if he even makes commission). His reason was he is passionate about what Grainger Industrials gives to the community’s and how they treat their employees. Grainger is doing something right!

So thanks Andy and Chase for a great day of programming, haze, coffee, and talk about nuts & bolts (literally). It was a great day of getting to know more passionate people in this community of Wilmington, NC.
